Avril Lavinge CD Cover

I have choosen Avril Lavinge as an example CD cover, this is because her music has varied alot between both the rock and pop genres.

Mise En Scene

Her costume is one of the iconic respresentations of her as an artist. It conveys her personality and her style through her choice of wardrobe. The dark colours connote fear, darkness and possibly depression. It also conveys her to have a hard exterior with attitude. Furthermore it reinforces the stereotype about teenagers and that she is portraying herself to be a rebellious character. The lighting used on this CD cover is dark, the colours black, grey and white and the dominant colours used and this contrasts with her facial expressions portraying emotions such as anger, discomfort and sadness. Her trainers and combat trousers suggests she is a tomboy type of girl, stands for no nonsense and conveys to have a strong persona. Her body language whereby she has her arms crossed and legs apart tells the audience that she is guarded, unapproachable, somewhat vulnerable and influencial to the ways of society.

Camera Shot/Movement and Editing
  • Avril is centre frame to the CD cover promoting that it is all about her, it suggests her songs are likely to reflect herself and her life within the lyrics. I have concluded this also as a result of the editing. The background is blurred to emphasize her being in the spotlight and her being the centre of attention. The people in the background have been left in the frame to show she is not isolated completely however she is outcast to the other people in regards to her costume and body language. It also could signify her being outcasted in society due to her social and age group. The background looks busy with corner shops, cars and taxi's passing by and with the public walking out the frame. This could tell the audience how her everyday life, the busy lifestyle she is subjected to has got ontop of her and she is ready to move on to something new.

  • The album title "Let Go" can represent many different meanings. The writing is scruffy which connotes laziness, a sense that she has given up being the good girl and is letting go, escaping from reality and has become a rebellious teenager which majority of girls can relate themselves to. Some of her songs on the album reinforces this statement such as (Losing Grip/ Too Much To Ask/ Complicated).
