Setting
The main setting for this video was shot in the busy streets surrounding by high rised buildings. This is to create an atmosphere of a heavily populated area which have gathered round Avril to enhance her popularity with the public. In the first part of the music clip, there are many jump cuts to different settings such as bedrooms, buses and coffee shops whereby Avril's street performance is being promoted to the public. This is shown to enable the audience to understand the storyline of how she became well known on the streets.
Costume
Her costume is punk-like. She is wearing 3/4 length trousers with a top and tie, this connotes she is an individual when it comes to style however also shows some sophistication with the tie. She also has black leather gloves with silver spikes to represent her rebellious side and hard-looking attitude. The colours she wears are bold such as red, green and black which is used to make a statement that she knows who she is and has adopted this particular image which connotes that she gets straight to the point about what she wants and who she will be.
Camera Shot/Movement
One of the first establishing shots is a low angle shot looking up the side of a building which displays a star symbol with an address and time. This starts the storyline of the upcoming camera shots. It creates an enigma for the audience as to what this sign represents. Another screen shot of a male teenager sitting at his computer and then it straight cuts to the computer screen to see what he is looking at, again it has the same advertisement of the star, address and time writen in an email. From this shot we gather information on what age range the target audience is for this type of artist, young teens. Again another extreme close up is used on a mobile phone, displaying the same information, after a while the star symbol starts to become iconic and represents the performance by Avril Lavinge.
Two medium shots are cross cutting between one another prepresenting the boy and the girl in the story of her song. This is to help the audience understand her lyrics and can grasp the idea of how she is trying to portray both characters. The boy wears a helmet and is riding a bike, it connotes he is middle class. He also wears a lip ring to categorize him in his own social group using her lyrics and his costume to stereotype. Same goes for the girl, she wears high-neck tops to suggest sophistication and she is driving a convertable which connotes her to be upper class and weathly. Both characters are stereotyped in this way to show audiences the contrast from his and her lifestyle which enables them to follow the storyline of her song more clearly.
An extreme close up of the clock to show that it is nearly twelve mid-day (noon) is taken, it was imperative to use because that is what has been promoted in previous camera shots.
