Audience Feedback

'The lip syncing was very well done. The acting was realistic also.
Overall the viedo itself looked very professional, it helped having two attractive artists, it kept my interest. The only thing I could comment on was the camera quality wasn't the greatest.'

- We spent alot of time lip syncing, we thought it was very important as it creates realism. We wanted ourselves to be in the video, as it was our own coursework, we really went for it with the acting, again to make it look realistic. It made the overall performance more polished. The camera quality couldn't be helped, however we chose to keep the dark scenes to keep the continuity for the narrative as it occurs during a period of 24 hours.

'That's really professional, I wouldn't of thought two students had created it. WELL DONE. The only thing I could critise as there is very little is that you could of used somewhere like a restaurant instead of a pizza place.'

- Our original idea was to use a restaurant as it seemed a more of a mature environment and usually associated with 'going on a date', however from our research we gathered from the pop/rock genre, we noticed a pizza places and cafes', more casual environments were used being that this particular genre of artists were of a younger generation consequently from our audience research, we found this would be more relatable to our target demographic.
Another reason why we used the pizza place 'San Marino's' was because the display had an advertisement which posted 'buy one get one free does not apply', we thought that this was a great use of polysemic achorage which we felt related to the situation of which our two female characters found themselves in, being played by the lead male character. We applied Roland Barthes' theory to the production of this scene, as he argues; 'images can be pinned down to give a preferred meaning through the process of anchorage.' In this case the anchorage was 'BUY ONE GET ONE FREE DOES NOT APPLY', this was the preferred meaning that we wanted our target audience to interpret, it reinforces the narrative that we were conveying that he can't have both women and one relationship.

‘Overall the video was very good however some of the camera shots towards the end were too quick I believe, I felt a little disorientated as to what I was looking at.’

The reason for the fast paced editing of the frames was to heighten the narrative. As the soundtrack increased speed so did the camera shots, this was to create an atmospheric and attention grabbing finale. We felt that the main plot had already been established earlier on within the video; therefore the array of fast images occurred to round off the outcome to our story. We were cautious to allow enough time for each frame to enable our target demographic to understand the significance to these frames with the idea that of the ‘burning of the photo’ and the ‘dropping of the engagement ring’, it signified the ending of the relationship which they both had with the lead male character.

‘I really enjoyed the lip syncing; I actually thought you two were singing it. The great thing was is that even if there was no music, I would still not what type of music it was. The outfits looked amazing.’

This we felt was an imperative aspect which we needed to consider whilst we were in the production of our music video. The micro elements are a crucial feature to which we must regard before attempting to create a music video which worked well and represented the true stereotypes of our chosen genre. Costume and iconography were two micro elements which we looked into and researched upon in order to generate this effect upon of audience, it enables them to easily identify which genre we were re-creating. We actually thought and focused upon the outcome of our final product and if it would still reinforce the pop/rock genre and portray it adhering to the generic codes and conventions even if the soundtrack was muted. This I can say we successfully achieved due the attention to detail we paid into the thought processes of our costume, iconography and general appearance of our duet.

Front of CD Cover

Here is our final CD cover. We came to this final product because we felt it is different and unique to other covers we have researched. However, it still keeps to the conventions of the pop rock genre. For example, we have iconography through the use of the prop, being the guitar. This instrument is commonly associated with the genre. It also porrays our artists in a positive light as it shows that they are instrumentally talented.

Furthermore, one artist is weraring a black shirt and leggings. This connotes a more masculine side of the artist, and portrayig that she is a strong individual female. realting to the theme of matriarchy. The other artist is wearing a short dress and leather jacket. This presents her femininity and connotes her in a more sexual way. We thought that ahveing btoh ascpects in our artists through their costume was effective as it shows two sides of a strong female, both being feminine, whilst also being a strong female, which challenges ideolgies of the stereotypical female.
